Intake session

An intake session at Maple Grove Mental Health is a warm, welcoming, and structured initial meeting designed to build a foundation for the therapeutic journey. Typically lasting 60-90 minutes, the session begins with a friendly greeting to help the client feel at ease in our Southern Indiana office or via telehealth. The therapist explains the process, reviews confidentiality, and addresses any immediate questions to ensure comfort and clarity.

The session focuses on gathering essential information to understand the client’s needs. The therapist asks about the client’s reasons for seeking therapy, current challenges, mental health history, and relevant life circumstances, such as relationships, work, or stressors. Questions may explore symptoms, coping strategies, and goals for therapy, fostering an open dialogue. The therapist listens attentively, offering empathy and validation while assessing the client’s emotional and psychological needs.

Additionally, the intake includes discussing practical details, such as scheduling, fees, and treatment options, ensuring transparency. The therapist may introduce potential approaches tailored to the client’s goals, like cognitive-behavioral therapy or mindfulness techniques, and collaboratively outline next steps. By the end, the client leaves with a sense of connection, clarity about the process, and confidence that their journey toward healing is supported in a safe, nonjudgmental space.

Counseling session

A therapy session at Maple Grove Mental Health is a collaborative, client-centered experience designed to support healing and growth for individuals in Southern Indiana. Typically lasting 45-60 minutes, sessions occur in a safe, confidential setting—either in our welcoming office or via secure telehealth—tailored to the client’s comfort and needs.

The session begins with a warm check-in, where the therapist invites the client to share how they’re feeling or what’s on their mind. This sets the tone for an open, nonjudgmental dialogue. Depending on the client’s goals and treatment plan, the therapist may guide the conversation toward exploring emotions, behaviors, or specific challenges, using evidence-based approaches like cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, or narrative therapy. For example, a client addressing anxiety might work on identifying triggers and practicing coping strategies, while someone processing grief might focus on expressing emotions and finding meaning.

The therapist actively listens, offering empathy, validation, and gentle guidance while encouraging the client to reflect and gain insights. Interactive techniques, such as journaling prompts or role-playing, may be introduced to deepen exploration or build skills. The session is a partnership, with the client’s pace and preferences respected, ensuring they feel empowered and supported.

As the session wraps up, the therapist and client may review progress, discuss any “homework” or strategies to practice between sessions, and confirm the next appointment. Clients leave feeling heard, with a sense of clarity or renewed strength to navigate their mental health journey, knowing they have a trusted ally at Maple Grove Mental Health.
